New Writing Opportunities for Teens

I just heard about two potential writing opportunities for teens I wanted to share with you!

The first is with Teen Voices, the 19-year-old magazine which aims to support and educate teen girls to amplify their voices and create social change through media. Plainly put, they understand the power of giving a voice to teens!

Teen Voices is looking to publish original material from teens, from artwork and poetry to essays and photographs, and there’s no limit to the number of submissions you make. You’ll want to include your name, age, home address (with zip code), phone number and email address are written on everything you send in. In addition to publishing original creative content from teens, Teen Voices is always looking for girls to profile in their Girls in Action feature, which highlights teen who are changing the world in some way.

To be considered, fill out this form and submit online, or print out the form and snail mail it with your submission to:

Teen Voices Online
P.O. Box 120027

Be sure and read the submission policy before you send your things in!

The second opportunity is with a yet-to-be named publication that is being launched by tween fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson (The Style Rookie) and Sassy founding editor-in-chief, Jane Pratt. While this project is so new it doesn’t even have a name or specific submission guidelines, Tavi describes it as “a magazine for an audience of wallflowerly teenage girls.”

On her blog, she writes:

“This is supposed to have a ‘for the people, by the people’ kinda vibe. We want to find the best possible group of people for this project, and a wide range of ages, styles, etc. If you want to be a part, email us: , because we haven’t decided on a title yet. (Hey, if you have an idea for a title, that would be great, too!) (PS, any submissions sent to my blog email will be deleted.) Something that would also be great: A sample — whether you would put the specific sample in the magazine or not — of your writing of all and any kinds, photos, artwork, whatever you’re good at and think would be at home in a feminist, creative, moody-teenage-girl magazine. Be sure to include the sample of your work, your age and location, and some kind of something about yourself. Talk a lot about yourself, please.”

While there is no deadline for Teen Voices submissions, to be considered for Tavi and Jane’s new venture, send in your samples by this Friday, November 19th.

Good luck!
